Record breaking renewables: 30th April 2017

Sunday 30th April 2017 is seeing record amounts of low carbon generation in Great Britain. At 1030 am, 74% of electricity supplied was from low carbon sources. Renewables (wind, solar and hydro) were providing the bulk of the power. The amount of carbon generated per kWh electricity fell below 125gCO2/kWh Here is some historical perspective for you:

• The previous record for low carbon electricity was 72% (on 15th April 2017)
• The previous record for carbon intensity was 136gCO2/kWh.

At the time of writing, solar generation was ramping up. By midday, for the first time ever, carbon emissions could fall below 100gCO2/kWh. That would be the first time in history that emissions were within the magical 2030 target for the countries electricity system.
