UK Labour would target zero carbon by 2050, with 7x increase in offshore wind & 3x solar by 2030: global leadership

The Guardian reports the leader’s speech: 85% renewable-plus-nuclear by 2030, up from 50% today …including onshore wind, creating 400,000 new jobs in a “green jobs revolution.”

This would represent leadership in Europe and the world, and this formulation creates very clear blue water between Labour and the Conservatives.

An interesting response from the CBI director general Carolyn Fairbairn: there wis “much common ground between business and Labour” but “continual public barbs and backward-facing policy are deterring entrepreneurs and investors, at a time when we need them most”.
