Last 12 Months
Monthly average electricity generation by fuel type and carbon intensity. The treemap summarises the mix for a chosen recent window; the column charts let you zoom out up to three years to reveal longer seasonal patterns.
Generation mix share
Average contribution of each fuel type over the selected period. Tile size reflects share of total generation — the balance between gas, nuclear, wind and solar shifts significantly with season and weather.
Monthly generation & carbon intensity
Average power output (GW) by fuel type per month. Winter months typically see higher total demand and more wind; summer brings solar peaks. Gas acts as the primary balancing fuel, rising when renewables are low.
Monthly carbon intensity
Average carbon intensity of British electricity (gCO₂eq/kWh) for each month. Carbon intensity falls when wind and solar output is high and rises when gas fills a larger share of demand.
